Welcome I’m Abbey.
I understand that healing isn’t linear. Life’s challenges can sometimes leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves, our relationships, or the direction we want our lives to take. Many people feel overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain about what to do next. It’s common to feel stuck or unsure how to take the next step. I am here for you, and you don’t have to navigate this alone.
My own lived experiences and darkest moments informed how I show up for clients: with a genuine understanding of depth and unwavering belief in their capacity to survive, and later, be glad they did.
As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), I believe every individual is an expert in their own life, which is why I have a collaborative, empathetic approach that balances emotional exploration with equipping clients with practical tools to use outside of sessions. I work with a strengths-based focus, informed by my frontline crisis intervention work with clients, who have shown me what true resilience looks like. I believe that every person is capable of growth and change, and my goal is to help my clients see within themselves the resilience and strength I see. I believe therapeutic relationships should be genuine and authentic, and I want clients to feel that when we meet.
I specialize in supporting teens and adults dealing with life transitions, grief and loss, trauma and distress, anxiety and depression, self-esteem and self-rejection, relationship difficulties, healing from traumatic experiences and navigating various other mental health struggles. I have experience providing in-the-moment emotional support to clients navigating profound experiences such as displacement/homelessness, sexual violence, childhood abuse, intimate partner violence, refugee and immigration trauma, serious substance use, and suicidal ideation. I understand individuals are incredibly complex – seeking relief, connection, and a safe space to be seen as a human in their hardest moments.
My current specialties include suicidal ideation & recovery, grief & loss, trauma & distress, anxiety management & emotion regulation, and self-worth & relationship issues. My approach draws primarily on person-centred therapy (PCT), narrative exposure therapy (NET), internal family systems (IFS), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and solution-focused therapy (SFT), but always adapting to each client’s needs. I’ve also worked as a crisis text responder for a mental health phone line, where I supported young people through emotional distress in their darkest moments of crisis. My own lived experience with mental health challenges and the work I’ve done to navigate them has also given me a deeper understanding of what people need when they are struggling and strengthened my ability to show up with genuine empathy and without judgment.
